Abstract

The number of poor people in West Nusa Tenggara in September 2018 reached 735.62 thousand people (14.63 percent). If seen in the period March 2018 - September 2018, the number of poor people is reduced by 1.84 thousand people (0.12 percent).
During the period March 2018 - September 2018, in absolute terms the poor population in urban areas increased by around 4.74 thousand people (from 370.38 thousand people in March 2018 to 375.12 thousand people in September 2018), while in rural areas the poor declined 6.58 thousand people (from 367.08 thousand people in March 2018 to 360.50 thousand people in September 2018).
The percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2018 was 15.94 percent, down to 15.66 percent in September 2018. While the poor in rural areas dropped from 13.72 percent in March 2018 to 13.69 percent in September 2018.
The role of food commodities on the poverty line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). This happens both in urban and rural areas. In September 2018, the contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line was 74.00 percent for urban areas and 74.81 percent for rural areas.
In the period March 2018 - September 2018, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) in urban and rural areas declined. For urban areas, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) declined from 3.241 in March 2018 to 2,346 in September 2018. For rural areas, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) decreased from 2,448 in March 2018 to 2,411 in September 2018. This indicates that the average population expenditure poor in urban and rural areas tend to get closer from the poverty line. Furthermore, the Poverty Severity Index (P2) for urban and rural areas also decreased. For urban areas, the Severity Index (P2) decreased from 0.905 in March 2018 to 0.509 in September 2018. For rural areas, the Poverty Severity Index (P2) decreased from 0.601 in March 2018 to 0.589 in September 2018. With increasing P2 means the gap between poor people in urban and rural areas are widening.
